Overview
|
Phillips Transportation Alaska, Inc. (PTAI) owns approximately 28.2% of the Trans Alaska
Pipeline System (TAPS). TAPS is approximately 800 miles in length with an outside
pipe diameter of 48 inches. The system originates on the North Slope of Alaska and
travels the length of the state terminating at the Port of Valdez.
Currently, TAPS transports approximately one million barrels per day of crude.
TAPS consists of not only the pipeline, but also a tank farm and terminal loading facilities
in Valdez. PTAI is also part owner of a vessel escort and oil spill response service in
Valdez which Alyeska Pipeline Service Company operates on behalf of the TAPS Owners.
TAPS is owned by five companies; the largest ownership share, at approximately 47%, is
BP; the next largest ownership share is PTAI's at approximately 28%; followed by
ExxonMobil with approximately 20%; Williams with approximately 3%; and Unocal with less than 2%.
